Social networks have become a window into our lives through which we share the different facets of our day to day. However, through this window it can also be the entrance from which our data can be stolen and the information that we wish to remain private.

That is why we have to be especially careful when using social networks and take a series of measures to guarantee our security.

Be careful with what you spread

Through social networks we share everything that happens to us but also something else such as phone number, address or more intimate information. However, without knowing it, we are unprotecting our security. To avoid this, it would be very useful to review our publications and thus also learn to enhance personal branding.

Keep in mind who your followers are

There is a great variety of social networks, each of them fulfills a different purpose, and therefore the publications in them must adapt to this objective. For example, while more personal or recreational content is published on Facebook and Twitter , Linkedin addresses the job profile and job offers.

In short, we must know how to adapt to each of them and avoid mixing intimate and work aspects.

Attentive to the tools with which you access

Currently, smartphones are the main devices we use to access social networks. However, we do not pay as much attention to security and without realizing it we leave many traces of information through “I like you”, retweets or sharing publications. All these social networks use this data to control and improve the user experience, but it is advisable to check the privacy settings often, to have adequate control over what happens to our data.

Use strong passwords

Although sometimes we think that the use of a password is a guarantee of security, its effectiveness depends on its quality. Therefore, we must take into account a series of tricks to keep our accounts safe.

  • Use a different password for each account
  • Avoid using proper names, dates of birth or ID numbers in the same
  • Mix uppercase and lowercase letters and numbers
  • Change passwords frequently
  • Be careful when using a shared computer

Sometimes we must use a computer that is already used by more people, and that is why we do not know who uses it and therefore who accesses your information. To guarantee security, when we must use one of these devices, we must not forget open sessions, avoid remembering passwords, as well as limit the personal information or photos that we may publish.
