Habits of happy and productive people
Happiness is a concept that can be approached from many different perspectives. In fact, there is no unified criteria for what happiness is, since each person has their own idea. However, it is proven that we are happier when we manage to be productive. Therefore, we will analyse the habits that can help us achieve happiness (at least, in this aspect).
What is the relationship between happiness and productivity?
The concept of productivity is usually linked to the world of work in particular, it is said that people are productive when they are able to successfully undertake many tasks in a short time.
On the other hand, happiness seems a more ethereal and difficult concept to land, since it is subject to a great component of subjectivity. It is very difficult to define happiness, since each one interprets it according to their own parameters or opinions.
However, both concepts have a point of convergence in self-realization. self-realization is understood as a state of full satisfaction with one’s own vital circumstances, and it also includes the process by which the person discovers themselves.
Being happy and being productive, are they achieved through training?
A person is not intrinsically productive or unproductive, but rather becomes productive. Productivity is not a quality that admits determinisms, genetic imprints, predispositions due to social or economic status and/or beliefs. Productivity is trained, and for this it is necessary to print willpower in a series of habits, which will shape the training to be productive.
Can happiness be trained?
In a broader sense, happiness can also be trained, as long as we consider that people choose to be happy or not, and we do not put our happiness in the hands of circumstances or third parties, but in goals that are within our reach.
To give you an idea of how important they are, think of people who suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), they need to maintain very marked routines (to a point, yes, pathological) for the security that having it gives them control and order.
Routines not only provide security, but also discipline. You cannot be productive if you are not able to maintain a certain rigour when it comes to respecting the schedule of activities.
Try to create a mission for each day. Establish a series of goals to achieve during the day when you get up (not tomorrow or during the week, but today), and try to meet as many as you can.
Of course, the daily goals that you set yourself must be able to be achieved with your own resources, and not depending on third parties or hypothetical circumstances. First of all, order them according to their priority and don’t get obsessed with reaching the less important ones if you have run out of time.
Physical exercise
Practicing sports will help you secrete endorphins, which will provide you with physical and mental well-being. The fatigue resulting from intense physical exercise could reduce your productivity, so it will not be necessary for you to carry out “elite” training.
However, playing sports will improve both your mood and your ability to concentrate. Also, the more exercise you do, the less tired you will be afterwards, again the concept of training.
Balanced diet
It seems like a cliché, but the reality is that we are what we eat. Food contains the “bricks” with which our body is built. It is not about evaluating the quantity, but the quality and variety of our food.
When we take care of our diet, we are giving our body what it needs, and we are entering a spiral of self-care. Once again, our concentration and our state of mind will thank us.
Personal relationships
Without quality personal relationships it is very difficult to maintain emotional balance. The good vital connections that we establish will help us in our process of self-realization and will mean a basic need covered, leaving more room for productivity.
You are not more productive by working long hours. Take breaks to oxygenate your mind. It has been shown that productivity declines throughout the day, so try to tackle the heaviest tasks when your mind is at its peak performance.
These are just some habits to be more productive and, therefore, to achieve happiness through personal fulfilment. The fullness of life is based on balance and self-actualization, and you will come very close to this idea if you manage to achieve good levels of productivity in your daily life.
