What is ikigai

Each person uses a technique to try to be as happy as possible. There are as many modes as there are people, although there are a few well-known tools that seem to have some effectiveness.

A booming technique that is being used by more and more people is the ikigai.

We’ll explain what it is, how to find it, and the benefits of ikigai.

What is ikigai

Ikigai is a Japanese concept that has no literal translation into English. The meaning of this phrase relates to your purpose in life , what makes life worth living, or your reason to get up every day. That is, the goal or purpose of life.

This concept arises in response to the emptiness that many people feel when they are unfulfilled. It’s possible to have a good job that pays well, but you may not like it or be comfortable with it. The question is to find what motivates you and keep going. This purpose can be found in any individual as long as it is analyzed.

Ikigai consists of four areas:

§ What you are good at. That is, your skills or what you excel at.

§ What do you like to do. In terms of what you are passionate about or what you enjoy doing.

§ What the world needs. It could be understood as the mission to be accomplished or the way to help others.

§ For what they can pay you. Usually it corresponds to your occupation, the paid work that you can do.

The idea is that self-actualization goes beyond passion, calling, mission or professionThe meaning of life is achieved through the union of all. And that is ikigai, the harmonious union of all these parts.

In this way, Ikigai focuses on developing your skills and enjoying what you do without just appreciating the material aspects. The most important thing in life is happiness and self-realization.

How to find your ikigai

Ikigai is a continuous process that requires analysis. Taking a moment to choose at random is not enough.

Finding your ikigai requires self-analysis and trial and error.

To find and care for your ikigai, it is advisable to follow the tips below:

1. Let your ikigai guide you. When you have to make difficult decisions, think about your purpose.

2. You won’t always feel happy. You will find yourself in difficult moments, but you will get through them easily if you know your goal.

3. Put aside judgments and beliefs. You should do what is really good for you without analysing what others think or what you should be doing.

4. Ikigai is not a destination, it is a journey. It consists in enjoying every moment without rushing. It is important to devote the necessary time to each task.

5. Ikigai is subject to change. As life progresses, your goals will be different, so don’t worry if your ikigai is different than it was a few years ago.
