Energy Bill Relief scheme

The Energy Bill Relief Scheme came into force for businesses on October 1st and was already available for domestic business users.

Energy Price Guarantee – Domestic Use

The Energy Bills Support Scheme provides a £400 non-repayable discount to eligible households to help with their energy bills over winter 2022 to 2023.

Be aware of Energy Scams

This payment will be made in stages and will be applied by your energy provider and not directly to any personal account. There has been a lot of press concerning Energy Scams whereby people pretending to be from your energy companies or regulators stating that to receive any funds they require your personal information. These scams come in the form of a phone call or text stating that you need to apply for any of the government cost of living schemes, and people are being urged not to hand over their bank details if they receive a suspicious message.

The Energy support fact sheet issued by HMRC details all the information you will need to know on how this benefit will be applied.

Energy Bill Relief Scheme – Businesses

The energy bill relief scheme relates to businesses and non-domestic customers. These discounts will be applied to energy usage between October 1st 2022 and March 31st 2023.

Again, as with the domestic scheme the discount is automatic so please be aware of energy scamming.

There are exclusions to the scheme albeit limited such as businesses generating power and then selling back to the grid so its worth checking out your eligibility.

For help with businesses and other non domestic customers you can check out the HMRC Energy Bill Relief Scheme Factsheet
